Our Aim

New Straits TimesThe residents living nearby have been subjected to unnecessary nuisance as a result of a Government blunder. While we recognize the need for the Government to implement projects benefiting the nation, we hope to get out of the way too if given an opportunity.

The previous engagements with the Government agencies has yielded many promises but most of them are yet to be fulfilled.

Here are some of the unfulfilled promises which we hope can be implemented as soon as possible.

1. Sound barriers to be installed at a height of 2 meters above a 1 meter concrete parapet wall on the elevated highway to prevent vehicles from falling into the houses in case of an accident. The current sound barrier is less than the promised height.

2. Sound barriers and landscaping to cover the view of the highway from the homes below the highway.

3. Dust control mechanisms

4. Noise control mechanisms

5. Vibration control mechanisms

6. Financial assistance for any affected residents unwilling to stay near the highway to move to another location

Apart from that, poor planning and enforcement authorities have caused the following impact to the existing condition of the road beneath the highway.

1. Highway pillars located at the entrance to Zone N residential area blocks the view of oncoming traffic turning it into an accident prone zone
2. Due to reduced visibility, there is inadequate speed breakers to compensate for the lack of visibility
3. Street lighting beneath the elevated highway is aimed at an angle which shines into the houses causing glare and discomfort to the occupants in the room.
4. Road curb and walkways are not provided while the road side table is not turf and planted with trees as agreed
5. In some parts of the elevated highway, drainage system is not properly implemented causingĀ  massive amounts of rain water pouring into the roads onto cars and pedestrian walkway below
6. The width of the drains have been reduced and not reverted back to its original width post construction

Despite the acknowledgment of blunder, the Government and implementing agencies haveĀ  yet to approach the residents with a solution to our woes. We hope that one day, our issues can be attended to and resolved.
